INSTRUCTOR: DUANE McLEMORE | PROGRAM & SPACE | FALL 2018
Program for the 24,000 square-foot aquarium included: library space, one or more large oceanarium, office and utility space, and ticketed and non-ticketed areas
DISSECTING THE CHURCH
Our first focus was on utilizing grasshopper to analyse and rebuild the general shape of the cathedral we were assigned. I was given the Concezione a Montecalvario in Naples Italy which was originally built in 1579 and restored in 1724 by painter, sculptor , and architect Domenico Antonio Vacaro.
By identifying the part to whole relationship within the building I was able to reconstruct the entire floor plan.
GRASSHOPPER - 2D & 3D VARIATIONS
The second step of our semester was to use Grasshopper to explore variations of the simplified geometry that was used to create the original floor plan in order to create a new form.
FLOOR PLANS
Our final result was the creation of our Oceanarium. With the thought of Concezione a Montecalvario in mind I created the floor plan for my aquarium using similar shapes for the base floor and revolved the shapes in different directions to create the exterior and interior walls.
